About Tais
Yoga and movement are fundamental birthrights, reminding us that the journey inward, through breath, stillness, and movement, holds the key to collective healing and transformation
Tais Lima's journey began amidst the culture of one of Sao Paulo's oldest housing estates in Brazil. As the granddaughter of a Brazilian spiritual healer with indigenous lineage, Tais embodies a rich heritage rooted in the traditions of both the indigenous and African diasporas of Brazil.
Tais' upbringing in a disadvantaged area of Sao Paulo, where resources were scarce, has profoundly influenced her desire to create opportunities for those who are often overlooked. This intrinsic bond drives her work, motivating her to advocate for accessibility and representation for individuals who may be unseen and unheard in society. Through her experiences growing up in a marginalised community, Tais has developed a strong commitment to breaking down barriers and ensuring that all voices have a platform to be heard. Her passion for inclusivity and empowerment shines through in her efforts to create a more equitable, accessible and affordable world for everyone.
With a background in dance and fitness spanning over 15 years, Tais immersed herself in various modalities including body conditioning, core stability, boxfit, step and power pump. Her fitness classes primarily unfold in affordable gyms and community centres, serving diverse individuals under local council initiatives.
Tais' journey into teaching yoga started in Kerala, India, in 2017 and it marked a significant turning point in her life. By completing her 200-hour yoga training, she gained not only the necessary skills but also a deeper understanding of the practice's transformative power. Her decision to teach in community centres for a nominal fee reflects her commitment to making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints.
Furthermore, her additional training in trauma-informed yoga and movement, as well as level 3 exercise for older people and disabled clients, underscores her dedication to inclusivity and sensitivity in her teaching approach. Tais' emphasis on compassion, non-judgment and intuition creates a nurturing environment where individuals feel safe to explore and grow in their practice.
For Tais, the value of yoga extends beyond mere physical exercise; it serves as a tool for community empowerment and personal transformation. Her altruistic spirit and genuine passion for yoga shine through in her classes, where she not only imparts knowledge but also fosters a sense of belonging and empowerment among her students. Tais’ work exemplifies the profound impact that yoga can have when approached with empathy, inclusivity, and a genuine desire to serve others.
